The Challenge:
Apogee Associates asked me to design a logo for their new company, they are a specialist consultancy firm that primarily provides Research and Development (R&D) tax credit services to innovative businesses.
Apogee were very keen on the idea of somehow using the “A” and also specified that the logo must somehow also include a mountain.
They envisioned the logo to be a clean, simple, innovative and modern motif. So, this was a pretty concise brief with clear specific requirements.
My Thoughts:
So, combining a mountain with the letter “A” is not an overly complicated request, they are a similar shape after all.
However, the trick to this project was to implement this in an innovative way. I didn’t necessarily just want take the obvious route. If possible I wanted to implement the mountain element in a subtle or hidden way that would make the logo more intriguing.
That was when I decided to use the negative space to incorporate the mountain. shaping the bar of the “A” letter so that it emulated a snow-capped mountain peak helped make the “A” more visually interesting and unique too.
