Nemea Athletica Rebranding Case Study

Introduction:

his Nemea Athletica rebranding case study details the brand transformation project I completed for the dynamic sports apparel brand in late 2022. The core objective was to evolve their existing visual identity into one that was simpler, more minimalistic, and highly versatile for modern digital applications. This project is a strong example of the approach I take with my comprehensive rebranding services.

The Nemea Athletica Rebranding Challenge

The primary challenge was to create a new logo identity that, while simplifying the existing visual, retained the brand’s powerful lion motif and subtly incorporated the initials ‘Na’. The client had already explored this creatively with their own sketch, which we worked on together initially. However, we mutually agreed that a fresh conceptual approach was needed to achieve a more professional and polished result.

Furthermore, an audit of their original logo revealed some functional weaknesses. It was less impactful when inverted on dark backgrounds due to its reliance on shadows, and the overall layout had an imbalance between the large emblem and the undersized logotype (“NEMEA”).

My Strategic & Creative Rebranding Solution

My solution focused on creating a modern, technically robust, and strategically aligned new logo system.

The New ‘Na’ Lion Head Emblem: I developed a new concept that formed a distinctive lion head from the “Na” letterforms. In this design, the letter “N” elegantly creates the structure of the lion’s mane, while an abstract lowercase “a” subtly crafts the lion’s face. The subtlety of the “a” adds a layer of depth and interest—a quiet nod to the initials that becomes a talking point. This new emblem is also far less reliant on shadows, ensuring it reproduces clearly and effectively in any colour and on both light and dark backgrounds, making it exceptionally versatile for social media and apparel.

The Refined “NEMEA” Logotype: The textual element also required meticulous refinement. The original logotype featured numerous pointed flourishes that created a busy feel and awkward negative spaces. To maintain brand continuity, I retained a similar weight and italic slant but made several key adjustments:

  • I reduced the flourishes to a single, contemporary point on the initial “N”, softening it with a curve to complement the new emblem.
  • I extended the middle stem of the “M” to full height to improve its balance.
  • I introduced clean, simple cuts to the “E” letterforms to create harmony with the “N”.
  • Finally, I modified the slant on the final “A” to create a clean vertical edge, allowing the new emblem to sit neatly beside the text.

The Rebranding Outcome:

The Nemea Athletica rebranding resulted in a modern, adaptable, and strategically aligned visual identity. The new logo system resolved the technical issues of the original and provided the brand with a stronger foundation to support their marketing and future growth.

Store It Away Web Design Case Study | Stourbridge | Pixel Freak

Store It Away: Stourbridge Self-Storage Web Design Case Study

This Store It Away web design case study explores the project undertaken for the Lye, Stourbridge self-storage facility. The primary goal was to create a professional, user-friendly online presence that would clearly present their services and make it easy for potential customers to understand their offerings and get in touch. Read on to see how Pixel Freak approached this challenge and delivered an effective website solution for this local Stourbridge business.

The Challenge: Objectives for the Store It Away Web Design Case Study

Store It Away, a self-storage facility strategically located in Lye, Stourbridge, approached Pixel Freak facing a common hurdle for businesses aiming to thrive in a digital age: they were operating without a professionally designed logo or a dedicated website. This absence presented several significant challenges:

  • Limited Online Visibility & Discoverability: In an era where most customers begin their search for services online, lacking an optimised web presence meant Store It Away was largely invisible to potential local customers in Stourbridge and the wider West Midlands actively searching for “self storage,” “storage facility,” or “storage units.” They were missing crucial opportunities to be found.
  • Building a Professional Brand Image: Without a professional logo and website, it was difficult to project a strong, trustworthy brand image that could effectively compete and assure potential customers of the quality and security of their storage solutions.
  • Information Accessibility & Customer Engagement: There was no central, easily accessible online platform for potential clients to learn about Store It Away’s range of unit sizes, features, location specifics, or to make enquiries efficiently, potentially leading to lost business.

The core objectives for this project were therefore multi-faceted:

  1. To establish a credible and professional brand identity, beginning with a distinctive new logo that would form the cornerstone of their image.
  2. To develop a high-quality, user-friendly website that would not only enhance their professional appearance but also effectively showcase their facility and services.
  3. Crucially, to achieve strong local search engine rankings for key terms related to storage in the Stourbridge area, driving targeted local traffic and generating more customer enquiries.

Solution Details: This Stourbridge Web Design Case Study

The journey with Store It Away began with establishing a new brand identity. For the logo and overall branding, I selected a bright, friendly, yet professional colour palette. The aim was to differentiate Store It Away from local competitors and create an approachable, welcoming feel for potential customers.

This foundational branding was then meticulously carried through to the new website. Key considerations for the web design included:

  • Intuitive User Experience: The website layout was strategically designed to ensure visitors could find the information they needed – such as unit sizes, features, and contact details – quickly and with as few clicks as possible. A sensible, intuitive, and efficient approach to the overall design and information architecture was paramount.
  • Mobile-First Optimisation: Recognising that many local searches occur on mobile devices, particular attention was paid to mobile performance, including fast load times and an equally intuitive navigation experience on smaller screens. The website is fully mobile-friendly, ensuring accessibility for all users, a critical factor for success as highlighted by Google’s own mobile-first indexing best practices (external link).
  • Visually Informative Content: New, professional photography of the storage facility was integrated throughout the site. This was crucial for giving potential customers a clear and accurate impression of the unit sizes, internal layout, cleanliness, and overall professionalism of Store It Away’s offerings.
  • Consistent Brand Application: The newly devised brand colours from the logo were featured prominently throughout the website, ensuring a cohesive visual experience. This consistency was also maintained across other new assets created, such as business cards and stationery, with the new logo taking centre stage to reinforce brand recognition.
  • Local SEO Best Practices: From the outset, the website was built with on-site SEO best practices specifically geared towards local optimisation. This strategic approach was designed to help Store It Away achieve its goal of improved visibility within the Stourbridge and Lye search landscape.

Store It Away Web Design: Case Study Outcomes & Testimonial

The new website and branding for Store It Away successfully met the objectives of establishing a more professional image and significantly boosting local online visibility.

Since its launch, the website has achieved prominent local search rankings for key commercial terms. As of early June 2025, the Store It Away website ranked:

  • No. 2 on Google for “storage facility Stourbridge”
  • No. 2 on Google for “self storage Stourbridge”
  • No. 2 on Google for “storage Stourbridge”
  • No. 3 on Google for “storage units Stourbridge”

These strong organic rankings in the Stourbridge area directly contribute to increased visibility among potential customers actively searching for self-storage solutions, a key goal of the project. The fully mobile-friendly design also ensures a seamless experience for users on any device.

You can view the live website and see these features in action at Store It Away’s official website (link is external).

The client, Dan Kendrick, has been a repeat customer for various website and graphic design needs over several years and shared this feedback:

“I have used Pixel Freak for my website and graphic design needs for a few years now. Martin has always given me great direction and perfect ideas for the needs of the business. Would highly recommend.”

DAN KENDRICK, Store It Away

This successful outcome for Store It Away underscores the impact of a professionally designed website tailored to local business needs and optimised for search.

My Thoughts:

The biggest difference here to other similar projects is that the client also required new photographs taking of the property and facilities.

Now, I am not a professional photographer, however, I do enjoy photography so they asked me if I would try taking some images for the new website, which I did, and they turned out great.

Protein Powder Logo Design | A Fitness Brand Case Study

Protein powder logo design featuring a Spartan emblem.

Protein Powder Logo Design: The Tytanos Case Study

This case study explores the creative process behind a professional protein powder logo design for the brand TYTANOS. The project involved creating a powerful, aggressive, and memorable logo designed to stand out in the highly competitive fitness market and appeal directly to a serious bodybuilding and strength-training audience.

The Challenge: Building a Brand of Strength

The client approached me to develop a brand identity for TYTANOS. The primary challenge was to create a mark that could compete in the saturated supplement industry.

The brand name itself—evoking the powerful Titans of mythology—required a logo that communicated immense strength, discipline, and an elite, no-nonsense attitude.

The brief was to forge an aggressive and iconic emblem.

A 3D mock-up of a bold logo for a protein powder brand.

The Rationale for the Logo Design

My approach was to translate the brand’s core concepts of power and discipline into a clean, hard-hitting visual. The entire design is built around a few key strategic decisions.

Evoking Power with Spartan Imagery

The Spartan helmet is an instantly recognisable symbol of military prowess, discipline, and resilience, with a rich history that resonates in modern culture.

By making this the centrepiece of the logo, we immediately associate the TYTANOS brand with the qualities its target audience most admires. It’s a visual shortcut to a message of elite performance.

An Aggressive, Modern Aesthetic

To appeal to the target market, the design uses sharp, angular lines and a strong, symmetrical form.

The way the helmet’s features interplay with the clean diamond-shaped container creates a sense of contained energy and precision. This minimalistic yet aggressive style ensures the final logo is modern and impactful.

The Outcome: A Powerful Brand Contender

The final design successfully met the brief, delivering a memorable and intimidating brand mark. The logo is versatile enough for packaging, apparel, and digital platforms, providing TYTANOS with a strong, foundational asset to launch their brand. This case study serves as an example of how a strategic approach to protein powder logo design can create a powerful identity.

Packaging Design UK Project

Hey, my name is Martin Williams and I created this Packaging Design UK project. I am a creative graphic designer with over 25 years professional experience. Below you will find an example of my work, more can be found in my portfolios, thank you.

The Challenge:

PrepBox initially approached me to design a brand logo for their company. Upon completion of the logo design, they then asked me to design their product packaging as well.

Packaging design can sometimes be challenging because of the amount of content that has to be fitted into the design often without too much space to work with.

Ensuring that text is legible and that all the correct information is in place takes an eye for detail.

My Thoughts:

I don’t have tons of experience in packaging design specifically, however, I have enjoyed all the packaging design projects I have worked on to date, and the client trusted me with it after the work I had already done for them.

I found that it is not too dissimilar from any other graphic design work to be honest. When you have spent over 25 years designing things you find you can turn your hand to anything really.

It was great to carry through my logo work into the packaging design and see everything come together, all in all it was an enjoyable project.

Modern Logotype Design | A Fitness Brand Case Study

A modern logotype design for the GYM CRW fitness brand.

Modern Logotype Design: The GYM CRW Case Study

This case study details the process and rationale behind a custom modern logotype design, created for the fitness and apparel brand GYM CRW. The project required a departure from common emblem-style logos in the fitness industry, focusing instead on a strong, memorable, and versatile text-based solution (a logotype) to build a sophisticated brand identity.

The Challenge: A Powerful, Text-Only Brand Mark

The primary challenge of this project was to create a powerful identity using typography alone. The client wanted a brand mark that was clean, modern, and bold, but that would also feel more premium and considered than the many icon-based logos in the fitness sector.

The design needed to be exceptionally versatile, working flawlessly across a range of applications, from digital platforms to detailed embroidery on apparel. The core task was to craft a logotype that was both visually interesting and technically robust.

Example of a bold, modern logotype on a wood background.

Design Rationale for the GYM CRW Logo Design

My approach was to focus on creating a perfectly balanced and self-contained piece that was strong enough to stand on its own.

The Strategic Choice of a Logotype

In a market saturated with emblems and icons, a well-crafted logotype can signal a more refined and confident brand.

We chose this text-only direction to give GYM CRW a more timeless and sophisticated feel, relying on the strength of the letterforms themselves to carry the brand’s identity. This focus on pure typography is a powerful approach in modern branding (External link), setting a confident tone for the business.

This focus on pure typography is a powerful approach in modern branding.

A Self-Contained & Versatile Design

A crucial part of the brief was versatility. The final GYM CRW logo is designed as a solid, self-contained rectangular block. This was a deliberate choice to ensure the logo is incredibly easy to work with. Its stable shape allows it to be placed cleanly on clothing tags, website headers, social media profiles, and next to other design elements without any layout complications.

The Outcome: A Clean and Versatile Brand Identity

The final design successfully delivered on the brief for a unique, modern, and versatile text-based identity. The design is clean enough for premium applications yet bold enough to make an impact in the competitive fitness market, providing GYM CRW with a timeless and flexible branding asset.

Bird Wing Logo Design | A Minimalist Case Study

The minimalist Bird Wing logo shown with a gold foil effect on dark textured paper.

Bird Wing: A Case Study in Minimalist Logo Design

This case study showcases a self-initiated design exploration into the power of minimalism. The project, which resulted in the ‘Bird Wing’ logo, focuses on using simple forms and negative space to create an elegant, evocative, and versatile brand mark suitable for a premium brand.

The Concept: An Exploration in Minimalism & Movement

The goal of this project was to create a sophisticated, ready-made logo mark with an absolute minimum of lines.

The creative challenge was to capture a sense of speed, freedom, and elegance in a single, sweeping form. This exploration into a minimalist Bird Wing logo design was intended to produce a mark that would be perfect for a luxury, travel, or high-end apparel brand.

The clean white on black vector artwork for the Bird Wing logo design.

Design Rationale for the Bird Wing Logo

The design is deceptively simple, but it is built on core design principles to achieve its final, elegant form.

The Power of a Single, Sweeping Line

This Bird Wing logo design is defined by its use of a single, decisive, sweeping curve. The principles of minimalism in logo design often focus on conveying a concept with the fewest possible elements (External link), and this logo is a testament to that idea.

The fluid line creates a dynamic sense of movement and grace, suggesting everything from the wing of a bird to the sail of a ship.

Clever Use of Negative Space

The logo also makes effective use of negative space. The small cut-out that forms the bird’s “eye” is all that is needed to transform the abstract shape into a recognisable bird’s head, giving the logo an intelligent and engaging quality. This detail adds a layer of discovery for the viewer without adding any complexity to the overall design.

A mock-up of the Bird Wing logo design printed in silver on a black tote bag.

The Outcome: An Elegant, Versatile Emblem

This design exploration resulted in a successful and elegant logo that proves the power of a “less is more” approach. The final bird wing logo is a memorable and sophisticated brand mark that was ultimately purchased by a client seeking a high-quality, ready-made identity, validating the success of the creative concept.
